The Get Down is a dazzling American musical drama television series created by Baz Luhrmann and Stephen Adly Guirgis. The six-episode first part premiered globally on August 12, 2016 on Netflix. Produced by Sony Pictures Television, the series is set in the South Bronx region of New York City in the late 1970’s and charts the rise of hip hop and disco as seen by a group of teenagers; its title refers to parts of disco and R&B records that could be repeated using multiple turntables, an effect that was loved by dancers.
