Alien: Covenant

Director

Ridley Scott

Studio

20th Century Fox

From legendary director Ridley Scott comes the latest movie in the Alien franchise. Bound for a remote planet, the crew of a colony ship discover an uncharted paradise which, it turns out, holds an unimaginable threat. They must attempt a harrowing escape. Atomic were thrilled to be given the opportunity to join in yet another galactic adventure.

BREAKDOWN / PREP

Atomic’s paint team were needed for ‘de-ageing’ and scar removal on Michael Fassbender. This was to help him look more android like and perfect. The Digital Matte Painting (DMP) behind him outside the long window was also completed by Atomic Arts. Some 3D was needed for where the silicon chip is inserted into Walker’s chest. We added reflections on the set to embed the DMP into the scene and dramatise the plates.

BREAKDOWN / SCREEN GRAPHICS (UI)

The Audi Quatro is a robot on the spaceship. Atomic completed the heads-up display, compositing, clean-up. We worked on all of the motion graphics for this scene as most of the scenes were shot on camera.

BREAKDOWN / 3D

We were lucky enough to snatch a shot of the Alien in this viral, the first time it was seen. Often as you darken and grade films you lose a lot of the animation behind the scenes. Here is a 3D preview version of the animation that was not visible in the shadows. With his fingers unfurling for the first time…

OFFICIAL TRAILER / VIRAL 1: MEET WALTER

OFFICIAL TRAILER/VIRAL 2: X AUDI LUNAR QUATTRO

I was privileged to collaborate with 20th Century Fox, Audi & Atomic Arts for the short film – Alien: Covenant x Audi Lunar Quattro. One of the best experiences that I had so far was to be able to create all the UI designs based on the upcoming film. The style of the UI had to give a graphic flavour of what was to come. Various design phases and loads of details required a great deal of attention for the final outcome. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did. Thank you!
